  • One of the premiere summer music schools in the country, the Brevard Music Center and  Summer Festival is “where classical music spends the summer.” For 10 weeks 425 highly talented musicians from age 14 to post-college come together to thrill more than 30,000 passionate fans who gather from across the country in a picture-perfect mountain setting.

A record 80 concerts were performed during the 2016 Summer Festival to celebrate the BMC’s 80th anniversary — and almost half of them were free.

Conductor Keith Lockhart is the driving creative force behind the vitality of the Music Center. A BMC alumnus, Lockhart is director of the Boston Pops and the BBC Concert Orchestra in London and has been the artistic director of the Music Center since 2007.

Many world-class soloists have graced the BMC stage during the last 80 years including Itzhak Perlman, Yo-Yo Ma, Joshua Bell and Frederica Von Stade along with many more well-known performers.

The popular “BMC Presents” series consistently features a star-studded array of non-classical musicians as diverse as Amy Grant, Bela Fleck, Garrison Keillor, the Steep Canyon Rangers, Mary Chapin Carpenter, Marvin Hamlisch, Peter, Paul and Mary, PDQ Bach and Michael Feinstein.
